Reminder: Deadline is 29 February
Don't forget, the deadline for posting your entries for the February challenge at hp_wotm is next week.

The theme this month is Love/Hate and the deadline is the end of the month. Thus far we've had zero entires this month. Actually, we haven't had any entries since mid-November. I've heard from a lot of you that you love the idea of this community, as do I obviously, but I can't help but feel that something isn't working if we can go this long without any entires. If you have any suggestions at all on what can be done to encourage you specifically to participate more, to encourage the general membership to participate more, or to advertise the community and increase membership, please let me know!

Challenge 5 - Love/Hate
February's challenge is officially up and running! This month's theme is:

Love/Hate

What's the story of the witch or wizard who invented Amortentia or a Hate Potion? Have an idea for someone especially fond of Muggles or offended by various magical creatures? How about a couple so in love nothing could keep them apart or somehow separated by uncontrollable rage? For this month's challenge, create any witch or wizard so long as the strong emotions of love or hate (or both) feature heavily in his or her life.

Posting for the challenge is now open and will close at the end of the month. Be sure to read over the rules and posting guidelines before posting your entry. Even if you've read the rules and posted before, you might want to glance over them since there has been a change: the removal of "awards."

Announcement: Minor Rules Change
Just a quick heads up from your friendly neighborhood moderator.

I've decided for the time being to forgo "awards" in hp_wotm. I'd rather the community just be about fun and creativity than competition. An added benefit is that this will give everyone more time to prepare an entry for each monthly challenge. Rather than closing entries partway through the month to allow time for voting and announcing of a winner, submissions will be open from the posting of a monthly theme at the beginning of the month through to the very last day of the month.

The rules will be updated to reflect this change and February's challenge theme will be announced first thing after I get up tomorrow. This means if you've been meaning to pimp the community to your flist or point it out to a few choice friends who might be interested and haven't yet done so, now is an excellent time so they'll be able to get in on a new challenge from the start and have plenty of time to create their own entries.

Thanks!

Challenge 4 - Holiday Traditions
November's challenge is officially up and running! This month's theme is:

Holiday Traditions

Who was the first witch or wizard to put fairy lights on a tree? What's the story of the writer of wizarding Christmas carols? Is Santa Claus really a wizard? Every great tradition had to begin someplace so take any known holiday tradition or make up a "new" one and tell all about the wizard or witch who got the ball rolling.

Posting for the challenge is now open and will close at the end of the day on 21 December. Be sure to read over the rules and posting guidelines before posting your entry.

This popped into my head months ago when I saw this character in the Lexicon, so I'm very happy to have a reason to write about her!

Challenge 3 - Family Members
November's challenge is officially up and running! This month's theme is:

Family Members

We all know the basic stories of the Trio, the Death Eaters, MWPP, various professors, and of course the Weasleys, but what about all the other family members of the well-known characters? What did Harry's grandparents do for a living? Do any of the Hogwarts' professors have spouses or kids? What do the next generation kids do once out of school? This month's challenge is to create an entry for any family member of any Harry Potter character.

Some canon-mentioned family members for whom you might wish to create a back story are:
If you are feeling a bit more adventurous, never-mentioned-in-canon family members such as professor's families or Great Great Great (etc) Grandparents or Grandkids of Harry's generation are also possibilities.

Posting for the challenge is now open and will close at the end of the day on 21 November. Be sure to read over the rules and posting guidelines before posting your entry.
